Platforms to Keep an Eye on in 2025

We think we can safely say that with every new year, a lot of new platforms, digital marketing trends and topics arise. It can be exciting, and sometimes overwhelming to move to new platforms and fine-tune your strategies so you can keep up.

Among all the new factors lie a lot of forgotten platforms, such as Pinterest, X and YouTube Shorts, that are still useful tools for thousands of businesses. Have you thought about how they might advance your marketing?

In this blog we’ll be exploring the latest digital marketing trends, plus the benefits of using Pinterest, X, YouTube Shorts and Threads as a marketing channel in your business.

Brands are Making Heaps on Pinterest

Most people use Pinterest as an inspiration tool. For marketers, this means creating content that relates to celebrations or events – these can be calendar holidays like Easter and Christmas, or personal events like birthdays or dinner parties. Users’ ability to create such a personalised feed for themselves based on their aesthetic taste means that it’s important for marketers to think about how to keep inspiration fresh for their audience.

In their guide to Pinterest marketing in 2025, the social media site stated that the strongest content calendars blend always-on ads with timely pushes. This helps you to connect with your audience on a personal level, by showing up at important moments or supporting them through key transitions.

Pinterest marketing is all about moments, which can be relevant for lots of businesses. Think of different moments you can create content around, such as calendar moments, everyday moments and life moments.

X or Threads: Which one Should you Optimise?

Research shows that Threads, while still relatively new, is driving more engagement than X – with 320 million active users and a growing reputation as the go-to alternative to X. According to recent data, engagement rates on Threads are 73.6% higher than on X, making it an attractive option for brands looking to maximise visibility without paying for reach.

Meanwhile, X continues to shift towards prioritising paid subscriptions over organic engagement. While it still has an average of 570 million monthly users, its unpredictability has marketers and business owners exploring other options.

That said, Meta has a history of boosting reach on new platforms before scaling it back. While Threads looks promising, it’s smart to treat it as an addition to your strategy rather than a full replacement for X – at least for now. Does Anybody Actually Watch YouTube Shorts?

In short, yes!

People’s love of short form video content from Instagram and TikTok has made its way to YouTube. For a while there, we thought YouTube’s days were done – with creators who once shared long-form unboxing videos, makeup tutorials or comedy clips making their shift to other platforms to keep up with shortening attention spans.

YouTube Shorts are viewed over 70 billion times per day, with the average YouTube Shorts engagement rate being 5.91%. Unlike other short-form platforms designed primarily for mobile, YouTube Shorts is built for all devices, giving brands more flexibility and a wider reach. When it comes to what type of content to post, that really depends on your niche. If you’re already posting on YouTube, you can share Shorts that are condensed versions of long form videos that perform well, or you can repurpose TikTok or Instagram content.

Having a content strategy for YouTube videos is also great for driving traffic to your website and other social media, because you can add hyperlinks to them in your description – a feature that hasn’t yet arrived to Instagram and TikTok.

RedNote May be on The Rise

We all remember the uproar during the 24-hour TikTok ban in the US and the questions it raised about trusting social media platforms for marketing. Well, creators’ lack of trust in the longevity of the platform continues, with a rise in RedNote, owned by Xingyin Information Technology Ltd, with downloads skyrocketing to nearly 700,000.

Often dubbed “China’s answer to Instagram,” this platform blends social sharing, product recommendations, and seamless shopping in one space. With its highly visual and community-driven approach, it’s become a go-to, particularly for female Millennials and Gen Z.

From travel and beauty to lifestyle, users typically use the platform to share content and tag products they love, all while seamlessly integrating shopping into the experience. It’s where discovering and purchasing products is as easy as scrolling through your feed.

If you’re a product-based business, RedNote offers a powerful platform to reach a vibrant community of over 350 million users. You can create content that taps into popular trends like travel, beauty, and lifestyle, all while showcasing your products in an authentic and engaging way. By tagging and recommending items your audience will love, you can easily integrate ecommerce and make it simple for users to discover and buy your products.

RedNote is a great chance to connect with a younger, trend-driven demographic and elevate your brand visibility while boosting sales. If you are struggling to make sales purely on Instagram and TikTok, see if RedNote holds a niche audience you can connect with.
